What is Aminus3?

Aminus3 is a professional photoblog hosting service that provides an excellent venue for both pro and amateur photographers to showcase their work, while encouraging them to post a new image every day.

The original concept of Aminus3 (pronounced “a minus three”) was born in a dream by Jason Kravitz where the word was associated to the photography concept of bracketing. When you shoot B&W, you take 3 pictures – 1 at the metered exposure, 1 slightly under exposed and 1 slightly over exposed – to have a better chance of achieving the correct lighting.

Translating the dream to the web, Aaron Schmidt turned Aminus3 into a photoblog community website. Originally consisting of just a few friends, the site now encourages creative photographers from around the world to connect, learn and display their photography on a daily basis.

Do you have ideas of where you want Aminus3 to go? We're listening.

What are the rules for using Aminus3?

The use of Aminus3 is subject to our terms & conditions. We have also outlined our recommended best practices in our Community Guidelines.

Beyond that, we do politely ask that you respect all members of the Aminus3 community. Do not post comments or images with the intent to offend others.

Creative expression in all its forms is strongly encouraged on Aminus3. With that said, we do reserve the right to remove a comment, an image or an account if deemed to be offensive in nature.

Will I have to pay to use Aminus3?

The basic Aminus3 service is available at no cost. We encourage users to get the most out of Aminus3 through the premium A+ Membership.

Does Aminus3 have a forum?

The aminus3 forum has been removed and we recommend visiting our Facebook page for discussion.

What time does my site change to the next day?

All photoblogs change to the next day at Midnight, Eastern Standard Time (EST, GMT – 5). Major cities that fall into this time zone include Toronto, New York, Havana, Bogotá and Lima.

We understand that members live in other parts of the world and may prefer the date to change at midnight in their local time however a single turnover time was required so that all domains switched at the same time and no one domain had an advantage over any other. Since both creators of Aminus3 were originally from the EST time zone, it seemed as good a choice as any.

How do I create links or bold text using the formatting buttons?

Double click or click and drag a word to highlight it and then click on the b or i button to add bold or italic formatting.

To create a link,
Highlight the link text and click the url button. This will add tags around the highlighted text. Paste the link into the tag after the url=

For example
url=http://www.mylink.com

What are the known issues with Internet Explorer?

While we try to create a pleasant consistent experience for Aminus3 users across operating systems and browsers, it is not always possible to make special cases for Internet Explorer, as Microsoft has historically ignored web standards. As a result, some functions of Aminus3 do not work the same in IE as they do in other browsers.

The post will outline some known issues with IE8 (and previous versions 6 and 7) and Aminus3.

Known Issues:
Cannot reply to comments on your blog by clicking on the icon
Cannot login to your blog from the Aminus3 front page
Cannot remove someone from BlogWatch
White and Black previous / next arrows do not display in IE7
The A+ Copy Prevention overlay does not work with IE7
IE7 caches certain pages which may cause issues doing things like adding images to Remix

For those that would like to try a different browser, we recommend
Firefox
Apple Safari
Google Chrome
Opera

How can my friends be notified by email when I post a photo?

All Aminus3 blogs have something called an "RSS Feed'
this gets updated when a new photo posts on your site (each morning for example)

It is possible to use a 3rd party service to read your RSS feed and email people when your blog is updated.

Instruct your friends to go to this site:
https://blogtrottr.com

For the "Feed", paste the following link:
http://photobloggingsil.aminus3.com/feed/images/

and then enter their email address and they will get an email for every new post.

How do I upload photos from an iOS device like iPad or iPhone?

The default Safari browser in iOS does not allow you to submit images to web pages.

It is possible using a 3rd party app called iCab Mobile Browser, to upload images directly from your photo library to Aminus3.

We recommend using this App to post images from iOS to Aminus3.

What is the Photo Resonance portal?

The Aminus3 Photo Resonance portal is a weekly gallery of images, organized around themes. It is a place for the world to experience all of the amazing images, moments, and stories which are shared on the Aminus3 community each day. Each weekly Photo Resonance post features three galleries which embody a common theme around timely and inspired imagery.

How do I participate in Photo Resonance?

All images posted to Aminus3 are eligible to be featured in a Photo Resonance theme. Themes and images are selected by the Aminus3 staff. We will occasionally put out a request for a certain type of image and will notify the community on how they can participate.

For more information, please see How is Photography Featured on Aminus3

How can I opt-out of Photo Resonance?

If you do not wish to be featured in a Remix or Photo Resonance theme, please Contact Aminus3 and let us know so we can remove you from the list of eligible photographers.

Opting out of the Photo Resonance portal will also prevent other users from Remixing your images in their own Remix collections.
